Matalan x bauer media

Matalan's relationship with Bauer began in 2012 when they partnered with Closer magazine and ITV in a multi-channel content project. I was bought on board as the magazine Creative Director in order to sense check the content for quality and brand on the Bauer platforms. In it's first year, the content developed from straight display ads to creative ad placements and paper technology. Over the course of 4 years, this partnership was repitched and renewed every 6 months. The scale of the content created grew from a few display ads, to multi page advertorials, mini supplements, paper technology, online videos, bepoke web projects, social media and events. For this client, Bauer produced a white label functionality for the Grazia iPad app that linked to the magazine pages and to social media. This partnership bought in c.£5m in revenue to Bauer over the course of the relationship. This ended when I left the business.

GRazia Magazine

Matalan x Grazia featured in magazine, on the iPad and online. The focus of this partnership was " I can't believe it's Matalan'. It was about elevating the brand to the Grazia readership. The partnership included fashion advertorials, Grazia talent endorsing the brand and the "Tuesday Shoesday" campaign which ran instore, online and on the Grazia iPad app. Tuesday Shoesday presented a fashion trend using shoes from Matalan bi-weekly on all platforms. On the iPad we built a white label functionality that allowed the shoes to spin when the user slides the screen.

CLOSER MagAZINE

Closer Magazine was a perfect fit for the Matalan shopper, this relationship was about support, advice and how to look  and feel amazing on a budget. The partnership included display advertising, bespoke display treatments (gatefolds and paper technology), as well as multiple page advertorials and online and video content. During this partnership, Closer looked at dressing the whole family, rather than just focusing on the lead female and had great success with it's 'Generations' campaign which looked at three generations of the same family in one shoot.

SOULUXE

In Feb 2016 Matalan launched it's revolutionary new fitness range to rival H&M and the big retailers. Bauer were the sole partner to promote this new range. We created a 40page bound-in supplement that was produced using Souluxe product alongside other highend brands. This mini magazine was also rebound with a bespoke cover and was on the counter in every Matalan store in the UK. I also created all of the bespoke display ads that sat in the supplement and the wider magazine.
